Design is not decoration. It is formation.
What is meaningful remains.
About Me
I’m Rény Manwaring, an interior designer and artist based in San Clemente, California.
Much of my work, whether I am painting or designing a home, begins as an act of translation. A feeling, an intention, or a way of moving through the world may not have a visible form, but it can still be given one. I am interested in that movement between what is felt and what can be seen and experienced.
I am keenly sensitive to my surroundings, but I also seek out sensory experience. I pursue the scent of fresh herbs and ginger, the feeling of clean air, and the changing light as it moves through a room. I look for interesting details and the small nuances that differentiate and delight.
The larger composition matters. Perspective, proportion, and scale determine how everything relates. But it is often through the smallest details that a feeling becomes tangible. A shift in color, the temperature of a surface, or the placement of an object can change the entire experience.
I believe beauty has a place in how we care for the world. It can sharpen our attention, deepen our connection, and remind us that ordinary life is worthy of wonder. What we make and choose to live among becomes part of how we understand ourselves and our place within something larger.
I am interested in what is already present, but also in what is still becoming. Art can give form to something we sense before we fully understand it. My hope is to create work that brings greater imagination, meaning, and fullness into the experience of being alive.
